- A walkthrough of the result
Barrel tile roofs
Barrel (or "S") tiles curve up and down in rows, which creates channels where water, debris and growth collect. That shape is part of the look, and part of why gentle cleaning matters: walking and pressure both have to be handled with care. Ask your provider how they move around a barrel-tile roof and how they reach the low channels.
How the job typically goes
Assess
Your provider checks tile type, stains, broken or loose tiles and safe access.
Soft wash
A cleaning solution is applied at low pressure and given time to work.
Rinse and review
Everything is rinsed and you go over the result together.
Surfaces and materials
Clay tile
Fired clay with a natural color. It's porous, so growth can settle into the surface.
Concrete tile
Common in newer homes. Painted or colored finishes call for a gentle approach.
Barrel vs. flat tile
Barrel tiles form channels; flat tiles have tighter overlaps. Both are usually soft washed.
Questions
Soft washing uses low pressure rather than high-pressure blasting. Ask your provider how they'll protect tiles and finishes on your roof.
Your provider will point out cracked or loose tiles during the look. Repairs are a separate job; ask who handles them.
It depends on the roof's size, slope and staining. Your provider will give you an estimate when they quote.
